A Stranger to Change Starts a New Chapter

I’ll come right out and admit it. I’m not a big fan of change. I like what I like. I get comfortable. Maybe complacent. I’d like to call it “committed.” I’ll let you decide which definition of that term that you feel best suits me. Read the rest of this entry

Alphabetize This!

Many of the people who know me have heard me refer to “Letter night,” which happens every month or two and to which I always look forward. The premise is this: We cook our way through the alphabet. So for example, for the letter A, everyone brought a dish that began with the letter A. It was always a surprise to see what we ended up with and how different they could be. As I recall, I first joined this tradition around the letter “I”, and it took about another 5 years to make it through the rest of the alphabet.

I think we’ve all enjoyed these nights, and so when we got to Z, we decided to start again –  with a twist. This time, the host (as determined by alphabetical order, of course), decides what ingredient we all work with, ala Iron Chef/Chopped. For A night, Amy decided on Artichokes. And this past weekend, Colleen decided on, of all things, Bologna.

Christmas Traditions

It’s funny how important traditions and a sense of wonder can be. Every year, I spend some time around Christmas going back to L.A. to be with my family. It’s one of my favorite things to do, despite the parental drama it can come with, because spending time with my family (and now my sister-in-law, nieces and nephew) is absolutely soul-lifting. Even spending time with my crazy parents can be fun. Read the rest of this entry

D-Day: Time to Plan Our Divorce Party!

Source: someecards

So this is it. 16 years. 7 years of marriage. Lots of ups. A few downs. And a whole heck of a lot of confusion…by everyone but us.

Here are some of the comments we’ve heard in recent days:

  • “Why are you guys getting divorced? It seems so amicable.”
  • “What’s the deal? Why such a cheerful divorce?”
  • “Oh no! What happened? You guys seem to be so great together!”
  • “Wait, am I reading Facebook correctly? Are you guys getting a divorce?!?!”

Have you Google+ed yet?

OMG I got a Google+ invite. Look, I know that it might not become that big. I got an invite to Google Wave once upon a time too. And I’ve seen what’s happened to Buzz. But even still, I do love trying out cool new technologies. As a fairly avid user of Facebook and Twitter, I question whether I really need yet another social network – My online identity is littered with the relics of failed experiments: Identica, FriendFeed, MySpace, Friendster and more. Why not try yet another one?

Thinking of you, Isabella

Today, my friend Isabella is undergoing some crazy scary stuff. I don’t want to share her story – it’s not my place – but I know that she believes in the power of good thoughts.

So even though you don’t know her or what she’s going through, can you all please just send lots of good thoughts (of good health and outcomes!) her way this morning? Thanks.

And Isabella – I’m sending you a heap of good vibes.

Feeling Guilty…or Inspired.

There’s this feeling I have. The pessimist in me would probably call it guilt. The optimist in me would call inspiration. Hard to tell which one it is, but regardless, there’s this feeling I have. And I blame it entirely on my friend Claire.
