Examples of Practical Whimsy
Sometimes when people hear the name of my blog, they sort of do a “practical what?” double-take. I know of a few folks that seem to think that the “whimsy” bit doesn’t fit me very well at all. These people usually know me most through work.
It’s all skin deep
.. At least, that’s what I’m hoping. Something happened last week that absolutely broke my heart. As you may know, K has a condition called Neurofibromatosis or NF (NF1 to be precise). While getting dressed one morning, K happened to notice one of her many café au lait spots.
RIP Space Shuttle Program
We’ll miss you. When you get the chance, can you please tell your yet-to-be-born little sister to be born and grow up quickly so we can go conquer deep space? Thank you.

A Penny Saved…
I love piggy banks. I don’t know why, but I’ve been obsessed with getting K a piggy bank for ages, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. So when my friend Laura suggested we drop by Made by Me to pick up some coasters she had made the previous week, we decided to stay and do some more painting. Three plus hours and a week in the kiln later, and here’s K’s new piggy bank. She’s already looking for coins constantly to put in her new pig.
Best Bedtime Ever
Tonight’s bedtime routine went something like this:
Me: “Munchkin, what book would you like to read?”K: “Where wild are? Where wild are?” Me: “You want to read, ‘Where the wild things are?’” K: “Yes. ‘It was still hot.’”
[Book reading interjected with K's, "Rawwwwrr!"s and "Be Still!"]
What a load of crap.
I got it! I finally got it! A load bag of crap! What, you don’t know what I’m talking about? I take it you’re not familiar with woot.com?
