Sometimes when people hear the name of my blog, they sort of do a “practical what?” double-take. I know of a few folks that seem to think that the “whimsy” bit doesn’t fit me very well at all. These people usually know me most through work. :-)

A fiery hot day

There’s something really amusing about an air conditioner being held up by firestarter bricks.

It’s all skin deep

.. At least, that’s what I’m hoping. Something happened last week that absolutely broke my heart. As you may know, K has a condition called Neurofibromatosis or NF (NF1 to be precise). While getting dressed one morning, K happened to notice one of her many café au lait spots.

Polar Opposites

The advent of social media has really done a number on the way we interact, communicate and consume information. This point was brought home to me when I was watching/reading the “Twitter Town Hall” that President Obama held this past week. The Town Hall also hammered home a completely separate point as well – that the current polarization of those who choose to make their voices heard is smothering our country.

A Penny Saved…

I love piggy banks. I don’t know why, but I’ve been obsessed with getting K a piggy bank for ages, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. So when my friend Laura suggested we drop by Made by Me to pick up some coasters she had made the previous week, we decided to stay and do some more painting. Three plus hours and a week in the kiln later, and here’s K’s new piggy bank. She’s already looking for coins constantly to put in her new pig.

Best Bedtime Ever

Tonight’s bedtime routine went something like this:

Me: “Munchkin, what book would you like to read?”
K: “Where wild are? Where wild are?”
Me: “You want to read, ‘Where the wild things are?’”
K: “Yes. ‘It was still hot.’”
